In 107 days I will be on a plane heading to Europe. I have been chosen as a People To People Ambassador and will be visiting Italy, France, and England as a representative of the United States.
I was chosen to be an ambassador after completing an interview process and having letters of recommendation submitted on my behalf. While in Europe, I will stay with a host family from France for 2 evenings, tour the beaches of Normandy, visit Paris, ride the London Eye, meet with Parliament, attend Leadership training, rappel down a castle wall, see the Roman Coliseum, perform 1-2 days of community service, visit various cities in Italy and many other adventures. In addition to the awesome experiences earned through travel, I will also earn credits which can be applied to my High School courses.
There is quite a bit of prep work to do prior to travelling. There is homework which needs to be completed, on-line quizzes to be passed, and journal assignments to write. I am also required to complete a short research paper on a given topic (English Currency) and be able to present it to the other Ambassadors traveling with me. My mom drives me to Binghamton for meetings and I just attended my 4th meeting there on Saturday - 2 more to go. Each meeting is 3 hours long and we study the culture, geography, history, and food of the countries we are travelling to.
It is a lot of work but given the benefits - definitely worth it!!
